How this trip happened

The Plot Twist

Days before the move, our car shipper ghosted us. No truck, no callback, no gray Model Y rolling onto a carrier bound for Florida.

Two options: rebook flights, hunt down a new shipper, and pray it all lined up — or just drive it ourselves.

So three generations of Singhs packed into the 2026 Model Y, flipped on Full Self-Driving, and pointed it east. A logistics disaster became the road trip of a lifetime: 3,107 miles, coast to coast, in America's 250th year.

Sometimes the best plans are the ones that fall apart.

History

Truckee, CA — the legendary 1846–47 winter crossing of the Donner Party, and the route of the first transcontinental railroad.
